The Powell Continuous Sodium Hypochlorite Process System is designed to manufacture sodium hypochlorite with greater efficiency and higher quality than previously obtainable with batch or continuous methods. The process, which uses liquid or vapor chlorine and caustic, is versatile and has the design capability of making any concentration of sodium hypochlorite solution from 20 to 200 grams per liter available chlorine.

Filtering of sodium hypochlorite to remove heavy metals and suspended solids is required in almost every application. You can produce sodium hypochlorite using any quality of sodium hydroxide, including diaphragm cell caustic. This gives you a wider choice of suppliers, which usually results in lower material cost and subsequent reductions in production costs. Powell Chemical Blending & Dilution Systems are designed for the continuous blending or diluting of multiple streams of feedstock. Precise control provides accurate and repeatable results even when blending complex recipes. Dilution systems can be operated to produce specific batch quantities or operated continuously based on demand. Tank truck loading and bottling line head tank filling are other frequent applications for Powell dilution systems. Powell Dilution Systems can vary in size from compact freestanding systems to skid mounted systems with integrated heat exchangers. Production capacities can range from several gallons per minute to several hundred gallons per minute of diluted product. Dilution systems can operate based on volume measurement. For increased accuracy and repeatability, mass flow & density measurement are used.

Powell Equipment Scrubber Systems include both the Provent Scrubber System and the Portable Scrubber System. The Powell ProVent Equipment Scrubber is designed to evacuate transfer hoses, piping, and vaporizers used for chlorine or sulfur dioxide process systems. The Powell ProVent, which can be sized for your specific needs, recirculates a caustic soda solution through an eductor to safely neutralize any chlorine remaining in the hoses or piping. In case of power failure, the scrubber can still neutralize chlorine or sulfur dioxide under pressure. The Powell Portable Scrubber System is designed for the isolation of chlorine or sulfur dioxide from piping for maintenance purposes. The unit is completely self-contained and can be safely carried by fork truck. The standard design is able to neutralize 400 pounds of chlorine or sulfur dioxide.
Powell Room Scrubber Systems, such as the Sentry 2000, are the most advanced emergency scrubber systems available today. Systems are available for use with Chlorine, Sulfur Dioxide, or Phosgene. The Sentry 2000 is a 4-stage, single-pass scrubber with a horizontal packed bed of high efficiency packing material. The Sentry 2000 can achieve virtually any stack emission performance desired. Thus, it is possible to control performance of the system based on any inlet and outlet concentrations and flow rates. The Sentry 2000 has been subjected to the most demanding testing of any scrubber on the market. In rigorous testing, the Powell Sentry 2000 surpassed the requirements of Uniform Fire Code Section 80 and is the only scrubber tested in accordance with US EPA Reference Test Methods, which are more accurate than continuous gas detector tests.
The Powell Railcar Padding System provides an independent source of clean, oil free, dry air in accordance with The Chlorine Institute, Inc. Pamphlet 66 guidelines for chlorine tank car pressure padding. This separate chlorine padding system is completely isolated from other air supplies to prevent chlorine vapors from accidentally mixing into the instruments and equipment. Built in redundant features protect equipment in the event of power loss, compressor failure, or failure of individual components.
The unit provides clean, oil free, dry air with a dew point of -40°F or below at line pressure. Although flow rate of the system is typically 30 SCFM to 35 SCFM, the system can be designed with purchaser's choice of flow rates. The typical maximum outlet pressure is 180 psi to 190 psi. The unit will automatically fill tank cars in an on/off mode with a minimum of 5 psi differential (ie, 140#-150#). An oil and water separator is standard on the Powell Railcar Padding System. After separation, water can be drained to a waste treatment system and waste oil can be reclaimed for recycling.
