Shut Off Systems for Hazardous Gases Such as Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)
About Sulfur Dioxide
Sulfur Dioxide is a colorless gas with a sharp, irritating odor at standard temperature and pressure. Inhalation can cause irritation of the eyes and respiratory tract. Released to the atmosphere, SO2 readily combines with moisture to form sulfuric acid, the main component of acid rain.
Sulfur dioxide is a reducing bleach and can counter the effects of oxidizing bleaches. It is shipped in pressurized containers and railroad tank cars. Smaller containers use standard 660 type chlorine valves. Tank cars use any of several models of angle plug valves.
Prevent Accidental Release of Sulfur Dioxide
Powell's Emergency Gas Shut Off Valve Closure Systems are designed to prevent significant releases of hazardous gases like sulfur dioxide. In the case of an accidental release, the emergency valve closure system will close the valves in 10 seconds or less, effectively preventing further release from the container.
