Shut Off Systems for Hazardous Gases Such as Hydrogen Fluoride (HF)
About Hydrogen Fluoride
Hydrogen Fluoride – HF -- is a colorless and corrosive gas with a pungent odor at standard temperature and pressure. When combined with water it becomes hydrofluoric acid, a liquid. It is very toxic and attacks all tissues if inhaled or swallowed. Exposure can cause death.
Hydrogen Fluoride is the basis for all fluorides including those used in drinking water. It is also used as a catalyst in isomerization, condensation, dehydration and hydrolysis reactions. Hydrogen Fluoride is shipped in sealed tanks. Railroad tank cars carrying HF may have angle plug valves or angle ball valves.
Prevent Accidental Release of Hydrogen Fluoride
Powell's Emergency Gas Shut Off Valve Closure Systems are designed to prevent significant releases of hazardous gases like hydrogen fluoride. In the case of an accidental release, the emergency valve closure system will close the valves in 10 seconds or less, effectively preventing further release from the container.
