Shut Off Systems for Hazardous Gases Such as Ethylene Oxide (EtO)
About Ethylene Oxide
Ethylene Oxide is a colorless, flammable gas at standard temperature and pressure. At toxic levels it smells similar to ether. Exposure to EtO can cause blurred vision and eye pain, difficulty breathing, dizziness, nausea, headache, convulsions, blisters and vomiting. It is a known carcinogen and has also been linked to spontaneous abortion, genetic damage, nerve damage, peripheral paralysis, muscle weakness and impaired mental ability.
It is used in the production of solvents, antifreeze, textiles, detergents, adhesives, pharmaceuticals and polyurethane foam. Ethylene Oxide is shipped in pressurized tank cars using angle plug or angle ball valves.
Prevent Accidental Release of Ethylene Oxide
Powell's Emergency Gas Shut Off Valve Closure Systems are designed to prevent significant releases of hazardous gases like ethylene oxide. In the case of an accidental release, the emergency valve closure system will close the valves in 10 seconds or less, effectively preventing further release from the container.
