Shut Off Systems for Hazardous Gases Such as Chloroethane (C2H5Cl/CH3CH2Cl)

About Chloroethane

Chloroethane is a colorless gas at standard temperature and pressure. It has a characteristically sharp smell. Chloroethane catches fire easily. Brief exposure to high levels can produce temporary feelings of drunkenness. At higher levels, it can cause lack of muscle coordination and unconsciousness. It can also cause stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and eye irritation.

Chloroethane is a liquid when stored in pressurized containers; however, the liquid evaporates quickly when exposed to room air. Chloroethane is often used in the manufacturing and production of insecticides, dyes and drugs. It is shipped in pressurized containers and tank cars.

Prevent Accidental Release of Chloroethane

Powell's Emergency Gas Shut Off Valve Closure Systems are designed to prevent significant releases of hazardous gases like chloroethane. In the case of an accidental release, the emergency valve closure system will close the valves in 10 seconds or less, effectively preventing further release from the container.
