Shut Off Valve Closure Systems for Hazardous Gases Such as
1,3-Butadiene (C4H6)
About 1,3-Butadiene
1,3–Butadiene is a flammable, colorless toxic gas with a pungent odor similar to that of gasoline at standard temperature and pressure. It is considered a ‘probable carcinogen’ by the Environmental Protection Agency. Breathing very high levels of 1,3-butadiene for a short time can cause central nervous system damage, blurred vision, nausea, fatigue, headache, decreased blood pressure and pulse rate, and unconsciousness.
Approximately 75% of all 1.3–Butadiene is used in the production of synthetic rubber. It is also used in making plastic. It is shipped in pressurized tank cars.
Prevent Accidental Release of 1,3-Butadiene
Powell's Emergency Gas Shut Off Valve Closure Systems are designed to prevent significant releases of hazardous gases like 1,3-Butadiene. In the case of an accidental release, the emergency valve closure system will close the valves in 10 seconds or less, effectively preventing further release from the container.
