Sodium Hydroxide Dilution Tool

In order to easily determine the amount of water needed to dilute any strength of sodium hydroxide (caustic) to achieve a specified strength of final product, Powell has created the interactive program below.   To calculate the amount of water to add to the strong sodium hydroxide, follow the instructions below:

Input Values

Input value for weight percent sodium hydroxide for both strong and diluted sodium hydroxide . The value entered should be between 1 and 52.

Amount of Dilution Water Required

The amount of water to add to the strong sodium hydroxide is provided in both volumetric and mass units of measure:

  • Volumetric measurement – per unit volume of strong sodium hydroxide, ie, gallons, liters, or cubic meters.
  • Mass measurement – per unit mass of strong sodium hydroxide such as pounds, i.e., kilograms or metric tons.
